“Thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His seat” Daniel 7:9
We continue with the eternal statements of our God’s essence. We recognized Him as the “Alpha and Omega,” and now we reflect on Him as the “Ancient of Days.” It reminds us that although we are caught up in our present lives and circumstances, we have a God Who has been there and done that. There is “nothing new under the sun” as King Solomon stated, because our God has charted human history since He began it.
We live by the clock and calendar, scheduling and planning our every moment. But we have a God Who holds all these moments in His hands. Indeed, even our earthy calendar is centered around Him and the birth and time of Jesus. Our Lord interrupted and disrupted human time-lines and schedules and proved Himself to be the reason for all time. This is why our Church calendar and our regular Sunday Readings always revolve around the life of Christ, and His continued ministry through the power of the Holy Spirit in our ordinary, real time. Jesus life and accomplishment become ours through faith.
While our God is the “Ancient of Days,” He is also the God of our here and now. He is intimately concerned for us each and every day and His mercies come new every morning. What great confidence to know that although time controls us in many ways, our Lord ultimately controls time. We can live in this confidence today and always.
Know that you are loved!
Peace and Joy!
