“For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory Forever and Ever.”
While the Conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer is not found verbatim in Scripture, its truths are repeatedly stated throughout! The phrase comes from an ancient document called the Didache, which means “teaching” and was an early manual for Christian living. It was also common for a doxology to be placed at the conclusion of a lesson in both Jewish and Christian traditions.
The Conclusion gives us the reasoning as to why God will hear and answer the 7 Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer. God will answer because His is the Kingdom, all things belong to Him in heaven and on earth. God will answer because His is the Power, He is omnipotent and can do all things. God will answer because His is the Glory and deserves all honor as the Creator and Sustainer of all that there is. These attributes of God are not temporary, but He holds them forever…and ever.
We can take great confidence in knowing that God hears the Petitions of His people because these are the words He gave us to pray to Him. Beyond this, He is fully capable in carrying them out. This most excellent prayer states the will of God, and because He is the almighty, one true God, His will is always accomplished. When we pray these words with understanding and meaning they become that much more rich, powerful and efficacious for all of us as the Children of the Father!
Know that you are loved!
