“So then, Brothers (and Sisters), stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you…”  II Thessalonians 2:15

Are you feeling a little unsteady in these modern times? It’s not surprising if you do with so much uncertainty and change. We might feel like we are standing on a shifting sand. And such is life for fallen humans who live in a fallen world. Sin has brought impermanence to God’s creation and made everything transient. The one constant is change. This might rightly cause us to feel insecure and vulnerable not knowing what today or the future holds.

Because of this, we are always desperately searching for something we can stand on, something that is permanent and won’t change or shift. But nothing of this world ever satisfies or makes us feel confident and secure. And then Jesus comes, and He tells us that “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35

Here is a solid ground on which we can stand, the words and promises of Christ! We know that they are sure and will never change, because our Lord never changes. We can stand firm on the teachings we have received from Him. When we feel anxious and worried, not knowing what life is bringing our way, we can turn to the Word of Life and listen to Jesus’ assurance on which we can build a True and reliable hope. For any storm that comes our way, we have a sure defense and a solid ground on which to stand, Christ Himself.

The second verse of the classic hymn, “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less,” comes to us as an eloquent reminder of this truth…

“When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace;

In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,

All other ground is sinking sand!

Amen?  Louder! Amen? Amen!!!

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy,

Pastor Kilian
