(Jesus said) “I AM the Root and the Offspring of David” (Revelation 22:16)
Jesus had formerly stated that He is “The Vine,” in one of His “I AM” statements. Now He proclaims Himself as the “Root” and “Offspring” from whence the Vine comes. It is a statement of origin and the essence of Faith and that which is most crucial to true life. Without a root or offshoots, there can be no sustenance for the branches. And we are those branches. We are the ones who rely on the root, offspring and vine in order have life. We do so in order that we may produce fruit, that is, the good works that God has planned us to perform before the beginning of time. And all because we are tapped into the Vine, connected to the Offshoots of the Root, all of which is Jesus, the Christ.
Jesus is at the root of your life and the nurturing God Who support you in all of your faith’s journey. He will never leave of forsake you and continues to nourish you through His Word and Sacraments as we live in His life-giving stream!
