“And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the Lord.” Jeremiah 31:14

We are so often a dissatisfied people. We seem to chase our desires around constantly only to receive them and find them wanting. How quickly our satisfactions fade and leave us wanting once again. This temporal world promises us joy and peace and convinces us that it is to be found in the material realm, but like all things in our physical existence, it lasts only for a time and then it is gone.

The heart of this problem is the problem of the heart. Our desires are placed on that which rusts and fades, grows old or can be taken away. Our fallen nature is so enamored with the things that are temporary that we often overlook that which is truly lasting and satisfying. This is why the Lord exhorts us to seek first the Kingdom of God. It is the eternal gifts of God, given to us daily, that truly satisfy the hungry heart.

Often it takes us a lifetime to realize the things that are truly important in life. Only after we’ve experienced them and the dissatisfaction they provide, do we understand how wanting our pursuits have been. We then look back in regret that we did not seek after those things that really matter and give true contentment. However, it is never too late to change. God’s gifts are always waiting to be received and experienced and understood as that which provides real, lasting satisfaction. All things of this temporary world will pass away, but the goodness of God will endure forever!

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy,
