“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love and self-discipline”   II Timothy 1:7

I must say that I don’t always feel confident, strong, loving or in control, very often it’s just the opposite. Yet here St. Paul tells us that we have a spirit that gives us these gifts, that empowers us to characteristics beyond our human nature. They are not attributes that I initiate on my own or have to will into existence, but rather which the Lord grants. I simply remind myself of what the Lord has given to me and yield to His gifts.

What a wonderful reminder God’s Word from II Timothy are for us today, especially when we feel weak and powerless. They remind us that it is not our own strength that makes the difference, but rather God’s strength and grace. This is all made true because of the work of Jesus on the cross and empty tomb. God saved us for Himself and has given us His Holy Spirit into our hearts and it is this Spirit that empowers us for faith, hope and love. We live this power today, tomorrow and forever. Praise be to Christ!

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy!
