“…and they will call Him Immanuel, which means, ‘God with us.’ ” Matthew 1:23
The Prophet Isaiah gave this title to the Messiah 700 years before Jesus was born. No one but Jesus could fulfill such a grand portrait as only He is God. The same almighty Who has walked the streets of heaven and the fiery universe, even down to the lowest depths of the seas, is the same who wore sandals and walked the dusty earth, the same Who sat and ate with friends, the same Who slept in the open air and healed the sick and fed the hungry. Amazing!
But Jesus didn’t just live the title for His 30+ years on earth. Jesus lives that title to this very day. He is always present among us and not just collectively, but with each of us personally. God is with you, with me, with all who believe in His Name. When you’re sad or confused or angry, Jesus is with you! When you’re happy, hopeful and praising His Name, He is with you. Jesus is God with us for the whole spectrum of life unto eternity. We can take comfort in this title each and every day.
