“Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.” Proverbs 16:3
When we have a singular focus on God, all else follows. So often we are distracted by other pursuits and objectives that we forget the simple formula of following God’s will. Without His direction, we are left scattered and ambivalent and too often this is the case. King Solomon tells us in this Proverb that as we are committed to the Lord’s way, we will see the path we should take more clearly.
There are a lot of voices calling out to us in our modern world. Each wants us to follow it and lures us to what it desires. It is only the voice of the Lord, spoken through His Holy Word, that leads us to the abundant life. If we close our ears to other distractions, we will find the voice of our God speaking clearly as we hear His Word of Scripture. When it is God’s voice that is speaking, we can be sure that our commitment will follow, and our thoughts will be established.
Try this morning to open God’s Word, read it and pray over its guiding and see how His Holy Spirit moves you in the way that you should go. God is for us and His Word establishes thoughts that are good and right and beneficial.
