“For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in Whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”  Colossians 1:13-14

St. Paul writes to the Church in Colosse regarding heresies that were challenging the truth of God’s Word. Paul goes on to call out these false teachings as empty philosophies and false religious ideas based on human traditions and man-made constructs. He is calling the Church to remain true to Holy Scripture and the teachings of Christ.

2,000 years later not much has changed. We live in a time when heresy and human ideologies, philosophies and theories about life and truth are plentiful and call people to choose what pleases them or what they want to hear. Paul’s words apply now more than ever and remind us that the devil continues to work to twist the Word of God and lead us to his deadly lies that make us blind. Paul desires that we live in the light of the Son, that is, Jesus Christ. To know the teaching of the Lord is to live with eyes wide open and a clear vision of reality. Paul does not want us to be deceived about the recent philosophical fad or contemporary theory, he wants us to hold to the truth of Jesus, His Word and action on the cross and through the resurrection.

God’s Spirit will empower us to do so as we trust in His gifts and the forgiveness of sins unto the salvation of our souls!

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy,

Pastor Kilian
