“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
Submitting ourselves to God is resisting the devil! The Lord has promised that with any temptation, there is a way out. That way comes through God’s strength and the direction He gives through His Holy Law and the grace of His Gospel!
Sin, death and the devil are always working toward our downfall. They seek to steal our joy and hope and cause us to focus on ourselves and the things of the world. If we battle alone against these enemies, we are sure to fall, but the Good News in the Gospel is that we do not fight alone! God fights for us! When we trust in Him, the devil has already lost. When we seek God’s will, we find our strength to overcome. When we go to His Holy Word and call out in prayer, we find the defense against the arrows of the evil one.
God’s Word is called the “Sword of the Spirit” and it not only defends us but fights for our cause. When we pray the Words of God, the devil hates this. It causes him to flee because of its power. Too often we do not utilize this power when threats and temptations come our way. Too often we neglect the power of the Spirit and trust in our own will and devices. But this need not be the case. God has promised that as we submit to Him, the devil will flee.
Trust in this Promise of God! Practice it in your daily life! Grow in the grace of God and know, the battle belongs to the Lord!
