“I know that You can do all things; no plan of Yours can be thwarted.” Job 42:2
We could actually view the entire Book of Job as one continuous prayer as it is a dialogue between God and Job. You are likely familiar with the trials Job faced as a testing of his faith. Job questions God about His suffering until finally God questions Job and reminds him that He is God and is in control of all things. Job comes to a greater knowledge, respect, and appreciation for the God Almighty whom he worships. Despite all the challenges Job faced this reward of a stronger faith made it all worthwhile. Beyond this, God allows Job to prosper once again even beyond what he had previously known. Job lived on for another one hundred and forty years and saw four generations of offspring and was truly blessed.
It is interesting that God allows us to question Him, even to lament the hardships we go through in this fallen world. God may not always give us answers to our questions regarding His will and sovereignty, but He does assure us that He is in control of all things and that in the end He will bring everlasting blessings.
When we feel the weight of this sinful world upon us, we should remember Job. We might question why God allows difficulties in our life, but we should never question His love and providence so that we turn away from Him. God kept Job in the faith and strengthened him to endure. He will do so for us as well and grant us blessings far beyond the challenges we face in this life. Like Job, we remember that our God can do all things!
Know that you are loved!
Peace and Joy,
Pastor Kilian
