“O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” Joshua 10:12
This was the prayer of Joshua to the Lord commanding the sun to stand still in the sky and allow for the battle to be won over the Ammorites. Joshua’s army needed more time to triumph over this enemy of the Lord before the dark of night came and consequently, the battle was won by the Israelites. The following verse 14 states, “There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a man. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel.”
What an amazingly miraculous answer the Lord gives to His people! A supernatural event in the sky allowed for success and gave great encouragement to God’s Children. God showed that He listens to prayer and fights on our side in the battles of sin that we face. While He may not always answer in such a miraculous way, nevertheless, His answers are just as powerful and efficacious.
When we face our battles against sin, death and the power of the devil, we know that as we pray out to God He will answer and fight on our side. With God on our side, who can be against us? Jesus has already won the war and the victory is ours! We still face times of trial, but they will not have the last word. Jesus’ victory is our victory and gives us the encouragement and strength to fight the good fight of faith while we yet live in a fallen world! Thanks be to God that He listens and fights by our side!
