“…pray continually…” I Thessalonians 5:17

Prayer is powerful! Amen! Yes it is! But the act of prayer in and of itself, has no power. Prayer is only powerful because of the One to Whom we pray. Some pray to Mother Earth or a Higher Power, to religious people who have died, Saints or Mother Mary, but these prayers are not powerful, they go nowhere.

If you needed help, you wouldn’t just dial any number, no! You would dial 911 because you know there is someone on the other end of the line who has the resources and capability to help you. Same with the power of prayer. It depends on who is on the other end of the line.

Because prayer is an act of worship, we only pray to God. To do otherwise is idolatry and is the reason no one in all of Scripture ever prayed to anyone but God. We know that when we pray to God, He will hear us. He has promised to do so and is the only One Who can answer. God loves His Children and even though He knows already what we are going to pray for, He nevertheless encourages us to ask. Prayer is God’s way of strengthening our faith and making us more dependent upon Him. In prayer God teaches us to seek His will and molds us into the people He desires for us to be. Pray, pray and pray, and know that God hears as only He can.

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy,
Pastor Kilian
