“If you, then, though you are sinful, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:11

Every good parent desires to give good gifts to their children in any form in which they may be found. Good parents want to improve, help and bless their children in any way possible. It makes them happy to do so. If this is true, even for sinful, fallen people, how much more is it true for our perfect and holy heavenly Father? God desires to give us those things that will progress us unto salvation and strengthen our faith.

It makes a parent’s heart glad when their children ask for good gifts. Even though they desire to give such gifts, the act of their children asking for such things makes them that much more pleased by the request. They may give it to them regardless, but there is something special about being asked. In the previous verses Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Ask, Seek, Knock! Notice the first letter of each word? It spells ASK! The Lord already desires to give us good gifts, but He wants us to ask for them! It encourages us to think on those things we desire, to contemplate as to whether they are in the will of God, and as they are, we should petition God to receive them. Do you want a stronger faith, greater wisdom, spiritual gifts, a more willing spirit? Well, God wants these things for you also. So just ask! And while He may give you them to you without your asking, He is encouraging you to approach Him as His beloved Child and request those things He has already place upon your heart to receive.

How many great gifts are ready to be received as we just simply approach God our Father and ask Him to give them to us. Try it! There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy,
Pastor Kilian
