“And He will be called Wonderful Counselor…” Isaiah 9:6

The title of “Wonderful Counselor” was attributed to Jesus the Messiah 700 years before He was born. It declared that He would be the One to guide and instruct and advise His people in the way that they should go. It proclaims that He will be close and accessible, a true confidant to hear our most intimate needs, fears and desires. It suggests a compassionate ear that will listen and help and communicate sound advice and instruction.

Oh, how we need this counsel today! We are living in a confusing, frustrating time that brings us to despair and causes us to give up and give in and throw up our hands in defeat. This is where Jesus comes to us. His Spirit calls us to His Holy Word of Scripture where we find guidance and encouragement and a true perspective that empowers us to live through this time with hope. Jesus our Wonderful Counselor gives us perspective that leads to insight and grants perseverance. Beyond this, we don’t simply get through these difficulties, we grow through them in greater wisdom and determination.

You may be already singing Handel’s “Messiah” and the “Alleluiah Chorus” in your head right now and connecting this title with the other titles that accompany it, titles I have spoken about in previous daily devotionals. To finish it off…

“And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy,
