“Isn’t this the carpenter?” Mark 6:3

These are the words that Jesus’ opponents spoke after He had declared Himself to be the Messiah. They were amazed by Jesus’ teaching, but could not accept that someone of such humble origin could be the great Promised One Who had been prophesied. They saw Jesus through the eyes of the world and were therefore not able to accept Him.

If they had seen through the eyes of faith, they would have recognized that Jesus was not only the Messiah, but God Himself, the Creator, Architect and the One Who formed the universe, our world and all that exists. Someone once pointed out to me that carpenters do two things, they create or build and they also repair. That’s what our God does! He not only formed us and all that there is, but He is also the One Who repaired us after our fall into sin. He is our Maker and Re-maker through the forgiveness of sin and the work of the Holy Spirit in sanctification.

Today we praise our God for making us into His image and for also remaking us through the work of redemption. As we live as His reformed creation we recognize that He is the Great Carpenter Who has repaired us from the damage caused by sin and formed us to be His own, eternally. We live this truth now and forever because of the grace of God! Amen? Amen!

Know that you are loved!

Peace and Joy!
