“…for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23-24
This is not only a good summary of the Book of Romans but of the entire Christian Faith. It is at the heart of our doctrines and beliefs and is an amazing, life changing truth that has revolutionized the human race. This is what separates Christianity from all other religions, philosophies, ideologies, and human enlightenments. We don’t work to gain God’s favor or receive eternal life but they are rather given to us freely and all because our God is gracious. Isn’t that wonderful!?
We call this the Theology of Justification and it teaches the love of God extended to us through the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus. It is this Truth that changed the hearts of St. Augustine, Martin Luther, John Wesley and countless other theologians and pastors throughout the years inspiring them to spread this message through their teachings and lives. Beyond this, the Truth has changed countless hearts and minds of common laity, motivating them to share and live this good news. This Truth has changed all of us and it is the reason we continue to seek out God’s Word and Sacrament. As we continue to return to this foundation again and again we grow in the faith and inspiration for life. I pray you would be so inspired to live this truth today and always!
