“…for we are members of (Christ’s) Body.” Ephesians 5:30
By now you may have heard that our State and City have declared another shut down in our communities and this includes churches. We had hoped and planned to open at the end of July here at Pilgrim, and now, that does not appear possible. Like me, I’m sure you were looking forward to seeing one another, even at a distance, and enjoying worship together in our beautiful Sanctuary. And I’m sure, like me, you are feeling a great disappointment and your hope seems dashed. Of course, this is very disheartening. And yet, when we feel our spirits low or hopeless, God’s Words and promises come to us anew.
The above verse from Ephesians reminds us that although apart, we are ultimately united in Christ Who holds us all together as one. I’m sure we are all continuing to pray, to read Scripture, to sing familiar praise songs and hymns, and as we do, the Spirit continues to work in us all through the power of God’s Holy Word. It’s that same Spirit that unites us as the Body of Christ and reminds us that we have been made His Temple. These are encouraging truths during this time and rekindle hope and promise in our hearts as we approach each new day.
As I write this I’m reminded of a children’s song that taught these profound truths in a simple way. Maybe you are familiar with the tune, but in any case, these are the lyrics…
The Church is not a building, the Church is not a steeple, the Church is not a resting place, the Church is a People!
I am the Church, you are the Church, we are the Church together!
All who follow Jesus all around the world, yes, we’re the Church together!
Yes, we are…because of Christ! I hope you find encouragement in these words. We will keep you posted as to when Pilgrim plans to reopen but till then, continue to be the Church and remain in God’s Word and Promises, knowing that we are ultimately members of His One Body!
Know that you are loved!
Peace and Joy!
