(Jesus said) “I AM the Light of the World…”
Light is indispensable to life as nothing can exist without it. So it is with Christ! There is no real life without Him. Whether one believes in Jesus or not, He nevertheless sustains this world in which we live, His grace is given to all. When one speaks of true life, eternal life, abundant life, it always has to do with His sustaining Word.
Light makes darkness flee. In fact, there is no such thing as darkness, it is simply the absence of light. And how many people live in such darkness, without the warmth of faith or the illumination of the Gospel? Even believers seek such darkness as we willingly go into sin and temptation. And when we do, we stumble and fall, and are left in the cold.
Yes, Jesus is the Light we need for true Life! And even as He called Himself the “Light” so He has called us to be lights. To reflect His illumination in a dark world so desperate for guidance and warmth. We are the luminaries to bring the Light of Christ to the world and to shine brightly in our faith. As we look to Christ, the Sun of God, we are made to be His glowing bodies in this world. Shine today and let the love of Christ send beams of glory to the others.
