“I AM the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whosoever lives and believes in Me will never die
” John 11:25-26
Jesus declared these words before the tomb of His friend Lazarus. Moments later, He called Lazarus to come forth from the tomb and brought him back to life. When all hope was gone and death seemed to have triumphed, Jesus intervened with resurrected life.
This is one of Jesus’ most relevant “I AM” statements because it answers the most troubling of human dilemmas in death and dying. Other than to be overcome by these enemies, Jesus gives the answer in Himself and affords us the strength to confront hopelessness so prevalent in our day. Jesus continues to intervene in every moment of every day when the powers of sin, death and the devil seem to triumph. His Spirit reminds and affirms that Jesus is still the the Victor Who is on our side.
We have already received this resurrected life, so that sin will not have the last word. By God’s Holy Spirit, we live this truth now and to eternity!
