(Jesus said) “I AM…The Truth…” John 14:6
This is the second in the trilogy of Jesus, “I AM” statements. He proclaims Himself to be “The Way,” and now He declares Himself to be “The Truth.” Today, perhaps, there has never been a greater need for this virtue of truth, with so much deceit and duplicity around us. And this, not just on an international or national scale, but within our own communities and households, even into our individual hearts.
Pilate asked Jesus, ” What is truth?” It is a question that continues to be asked throughout the ages of human history, and yet for so many, the answer remains illusive. Philosophers will give their opinions, as will the politician, business person and the man on the street, and yet, it is always left wanting.
Isn’t it comforting, in light of all of this, to hear our own Lord and Savior make the clear statement, “I AM the Truth…?” Not an opinion or perspective or an ideology… but a Person, none other than Jesus Christ, Who is the embodiment of truth…Truth incarnate.
Amidst the clamor and cacophony of voices calling out, the voice of the Good Shepherd rings clear and calls us to follow Him as the Way to Truth!
