“As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is” Proverbs 23:7
What are you thinking about? It’s an important question because thoughts are crucial in that they are the seed to action. We might think that our thoughts are benign, or that they just come to us and linger in our minds beyond our control. But we have the Spirit of self-control, and this fruit allows us to filter out that which is wrong or harmful, and to think on that which is good and helpful. If we allow seeds of thought to grow, they will, whether for good or ill. Being mindful of what we’re thinking is as crucial as being careful of what we do or say. Thoughts and actions are intimately connected.
Paul tells the Church in Philippi, “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- it anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
Also, I Corinthians 2:16 reminds us that, “we have the mind of Christ.” This means that we are empowered and not left to our own devices. We have His Holy Word on which to meditate and direct our thoughts. This is a great encouragement for us to think on the things of God and to set our minds upon heaven as the Spirit leads us. So what do you think?
My prayer is that beginning today, right now, the Lord would draw our minds to such truths, knowing that in doing so, we are living the abundant life to which He has planned us to live. May God grant this unto us all for the sake of Christ Jesus!
Know that you are loved!
Peace and Joy!
