For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

106 years ago today a small group of faithful Lutheran Christians established a Church in Santa Monica, California. They called it Pilgrim Lutheran Church. On May 14, 1914 a sojourn  began toward a better land, an eternal country, and the Kingdom of Heaven. How many people have joined that trek since, and found fellow searchers to seek with them since that day? Too many to count!

What a blessing it is to be a part of a Family who encourages one another along the journey. No matter what this world may bring, we have a unity in the Lord that enables us to surmount any obstacle, even the Corona Covid-19 Virus and all the challenges it brings.

Since the day our Church began, our nation has endured two World Wars, a Great Depression, the Spanish Flu, the Small Pox and Polio epidemics, the Korean Vietnam wars, including many smaller military conflicts, a Cold war, Terrorism and a Nuclear Age and many other challenges including the 1994 Northridge Earthquake.  And yet, “Pilgrim’s Foundation” stands unmoved. This is because Pilgrim’s Foundation is non other than the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ our Savior.

Jesus brought Pilgrim through all of these difficult times and allowed us to endure. In light of His past faithfulness, we can take great comfort and encouragement for this time and whatever the future holds,

May the Lord Richly Bless you and Keep you,

Rev. Nathan R.  Kilian
